ACFM - Alternating Current Field Measurement

The NDT Technique is used for detecting, evaluating depth, and sizing discontinuities that appear on the surface. It is particularly suitable for welds in pressure vessels, structures, and pipelines made of carbon steel and stainless steel. This method does not require surface preparation or paint removal.

It is primarily used for detecting surface discontinuities in conductive materials. The ACFM probe induces a uniform electrical current into the material being inspected, which in turn generates a magnetic field. This field undergoes changes as it flows around the edges of existing discontinuities. Small sensors embedded within the probes detect these magnetic field variations.

These measurements, combined with mathematical modeling software, allow for highly accurate determination of the length and depth of a discontinuity, especially when fatigue is the primary cause.

The application of this technique eliminates the need for coating removal and reapplication, optimizing surface preparation resources and reducing restoration costs. The unit is equipped with a probe specifically designed for the material and geometry of the inspected piece and operates with cutting-edge software. This combination represents a qualitative breakthrough in ACFM technology, enhancing both inspection speed and accuracy.

With the ability to assess positioning, detect anomalies, and determine their dimensions, depth, and length in real time, this method proves to be highly effective for surface inspections.

This technique has proven efficiency in detecting surface defects in welds, particularly in pressure vessels, storage tanks, pipelines, structures, and other welded or coated equipment.
